Have you ever been to Knott’s Scary Farm during Halloween season to experience a fun experience full of monsters and mazes? I have been there a total of three times and this last time was the best ever! I learned a thing or two in this last visit and I’m sharing them with you with these 5 tips for Knott’s Scary Farm!!!
The first time I went was during my teenage years a very long time ago. I didn’t mind the wait times because I was with my crush and my family at the time. We went through the mazes and saw the Elvira show. It was great and you will see that if you go, this is a very popular age group at the venue. The second time I went was on a date a few years ago and this time the best part was the funnel cake and the photo opp with my date. We went through a few mazes but again the wait times were a bit annoying so we ended up leaving early. This last time I went to Knott’s Scary Farm, I had the opportunity to use the VIP pass into the park. It made such a difference and our wait times were cut to almost no wait. When you get to be in your mid-30’s waiting during long lines can be such a bother. So if that is deterring you from going to Knott’s Scary Farm, don’t let it! Overall, I had a blast and would like to give you some tips on how you can get the most during your time at Knott’s Scary Farm.
Invest in the upgraded pass
I cannot stress enough that paying those extra $30 to get VIP front of the line entrance to the mazes AND the rides is SO worth it. The VIP pass will cost you about $73 but it will cut back on wait times to less than ten minutes per ride or maze. It’s a great deal because if you don’t get the fast pass, then you can expect to wait in lines for over an hour at times. I wish I would’ve known about this special pass a long time ago, so I’m giving you the inside scoop. Do it! You will notice that there will be orange signs with the regular lines and there will be green signs for the VIP lines. My boyfriend and I managed to get in 7 of the 9 mazes and we got on 4 rides all in less than 3 hours! It was amazing! The regular ticket will cost you starting at $42 and if you’d like to save some money and don’t mind the wait times, then I would suggest you grab a group of friends you haven’t seen in a while and the wait times will seem like nothing since you’ll be doing all that catching up on life. I went to Knott’s Berry Farm for July 4th with a few college friends I see once a year and we didn’t mind the lines at all because we were too busy talking about anything and everything. Knott’s Scary Farm is the perfect place to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, graduation, reunion or any other special occasion. You can make it an annual tradition with a select group of friends. I have a few college friends who go every year.
Bring a light sweater
Knott’s Scary Farm starts at 7pm and ends at 1am so it can get quite chilly walking around the park at night. It can get a little hot during the mazes because it is a tight space, so bring a sweater you can tie around your waist. The rides can get chilly and if you are planning on getting on the water rides such as the log ride, then expect to get a little wet and cold. We went on the log ride and we were definitely wearing our sweaters as there is a light breeze throughout the ride. You can also purchase a sweater at Knott’s and take home a souvenir at the same time. You will also notice that there is a Day of the Dead area in the fiesta area of Knott’s and the have lots of Day of the Dead gear available for purchase.
Plan ahead for parking by getting there early
We arrived to the park at 6:30pm and were able to find parking pretty quickly because we got there early. Parking will cost you $20 general parking and $30 for preferred parking. It’s definitely not cheap, however what I usually do is suggest one person to drive everyone and the passengers split the parking costs. In other words, make sure you carpool to cut back on costs. You can also Uber there if you live nearby and that will save you money as well.
Don’t worry about safety
With so many tragedies going on today, it’s quite understandable to not want to be around crowds these days. You don’t have to worry about safety at Knott’s since they have all their bases covered. You will go through a bag check when you get there, metal detector and there are Knott’s patrons throughout the mazes keeping the peace. There are also Knott’s patrons throughout the park and Buena Park PD is also throughout the park and outside the park. My boyfriend and I felt very safe and we are grateful Knott’s is taking the time to ensure a safe space for all their visitors. Also, leave your snacks at home since you are not allowed to take food into the park. There is a TGIF restaurant right outside of Knott’s if you’d like to grab a bite or a drink with your party. It’s conveniently located on your way to the park right next to the parking grounds.
The rides are fun especially the Coast Rider ride
I’m not one to ride the very fast rides which have many dips and fast turns, so I played it safe with my boyfriend and only got on a few rides that we both enjoyed. He insisted that I write about the Coast Rider because it is such a unique ride that doesn’t seem scary at all, but the turns in this ride will have you feeling like you’re going over the edge. Its definitely scary for those who have never tried but not too scary for people like me who can’t stand the super scary rides.
I hope you are able to make it to Knott’s Scary Farm before the last night this year which is October 31. I highly recommend all the mazes especially the Special Ops Infected, The Red Barn and The Pumpkin Eater mazes. I won’t ruin the gory surprises in each maze, but it is totally worth it. I would also like to say that the monsters are not too frightening as may be expected. They are actually quite friendly, except don’t try and take pictures with them as they are always on the move. Also, please note that this is the last year there will be the Elvira show at Knott’s Scary Farm. If you’ve never seen it, I highly recommend it. Do expect lines, however, so get to the venue early. It is located towards the back of the park. Hope you can be a part of this super fun time during the Halloween season!
