Best discount movie theaters in Orange County -

I like to go to the AMC Woodbridge 5 in Irvine and the Picture Show in Santa Ana because they are the closest to me, but there is another great discount theatre in Huntington Beach. Each theatre varies slightly so you might want to check out the one that most caters to your needs and budget. Below is a list of my favorite discount movie theaters in Orange County and some information on what each theatre offers.

Best Discount Movie Theaters In Orange County

Picture Show at Main Place Mall

2800 N. Main St, Suite 999
Santa Ana, CA 92705
(714) 836-7469

This theater is conveniently located inside of the Westfield Main Place Mall on the second floor of the dining area part of the mall. You can grab a bite to eat before the movie and then head upstairs to enjoy a film. You can make a date night out of it! You may also enjoy a cup of coffee as well, but please note that this theatre is very strict with outside food and drinks. They will not let you bring even a cup of coffee inside so make sure you either bring snacks from home and stuff them in your purse or enjoy your food and drink before entering the theatre.

One thing that stands out about this theatre is that they host private parties. You may reserve 2 hours at their private party section for a $35 deposit and it includes a movie ticket and a kids meal per person. It costs $6 per person after 6pm and $5 per person before 6pm.

This is a very kid-friendly theatre as they have a whole section in the middle of the theatre devoted to arcades. You can always find lots of kids playing and this location is also very accommodating to large groups. I have been to this theatre during the summer and you may often run into summer camp kids on a field trip to this theatre. I would like to note that because this theatre is located in a mall, if you see a late night movie you will have to enter through a specific side of the mall because the mall closes earlier than the theatre. You can enter and exit through the side of the mall closest to the theatre.

Another great aspect of this theatre is their $1 hot dogs. Popcorn and drinks are pretty pricey, but their hot dogs are a bargain. If you do buy popcorn, they have several types of cheese seasonings you can place as your topping.

The best part about this theatre is the price per movie. Tickets will cost you $2 before 6pm and $3 after 6pm, and 3D movies are $4 all day. What I love about this theatre is that there is always a large selection of movies available to see. I’ve also noticed that all three bargain theatres mentioned showcase some similar films, but some will vary so you might want to check the movies at all three theatres beforehand. I like to use the Fandango app on my phone to check what each theatre is showing. New movies come out every Friday.

AMC Woodbridge 5

4626 Barranca Parkway
Irvine, CA 92604
(949) 733-0980

This theatre is located in an area where you can enjoy a few things to do before you watch a movie. There are several restaurants nearby as well as a coffee shop and a bookstore. I like to go to this theatre by myself whenever I need some me-time. Before or after the movie, I like to go into the bookstore next door and check out the clearance section. I also prefer this location because there is never a large crowd, especially if you go to a matinee. Sometimes the Santa Ana location can get very busy in the evenings and weekends, so I tend to go to this location more frequently.

The ticket prices for this theatre are $1.99 matinee and $2.99 evenings. 3D movies are $3.99 all day.

There is plenty of parking in the theatre parking lot and there is hardly ever any long lines to get into the theatre. There is also a concession stand inside which will soon feature a fountain drink stand where you can choose from a large variety of fountain drinks. Popcorn, candy and drinks are a bit pricey like regular movie theatres. If you want to save money on snacks, you can always purchase snacks beforehand at a store like the Dollar Tree or the 99 cents store.

Regency Charter Centre Cinemas

7822 Warner Ave
Huntington Beach, CA 92647
(714) 596-3456

My best friend that lives in Stanton attends this theatre on a regular basis with her boyfriend. She loves this location because it has ample parking at the nearby parking structure and they have a great deal on Sundays. The ticket prices for this theatre are $3 all day and $1.50 on Sundays. They also have a date night special on Wednesday nights which costs $11 for 2 tickets, 2 popcorns and 2 sodas after 6pm. That’s only $11 for the both of you! What a bargain!!

I’ve never been to this location because it is a bit far for me, however there is plenty to do in Huntington Beach to make an outing out of it. The theatre is conveniently located next to a ton of restaurants and fast food joints. There is also an ice cream shop within walking distance.

I hope you are able to make it to one of these three centrally located discount theatres. I guarantee you will have a great time while also saving a ton of money. If you’re patient enough, you can watch a really great film for a much smaller cost just a few months after it is released. You will have more luck finding children’s films at these theatres but don’t let that stop you from going there on a date or by yourself. I don’t have kids but I sometimes take my niece to watch a children’s film or I go by myself and watch a more mature film. There really is something for everyone at these theatres. If you are considering a trip to the mall for some shopping, then consider the Santa Ana location. If you want some quiet time and want to check out a good book and a cup of coffee, then consider the Irvine location. If you want to go on a date, then consider the Huntington Beach location on a Wednesday night. You won’t regret it!

Another discount theater you may want to check out:
Brea Plaza 5 Cinemas
453 S. Associated Rd
Brea, CA 92821
Movie Hotline: 714-257-9377
Ticket prices: Evening (5:00 pm and after) – $4.00, Matinee (before 5:00 pm) – $3.25

AMC Woodbridge 5 just went full price! That was our favorite theater at $2 a person, but those days are over. When AMC bought it, I knew it would only be a matter of time. Worst thing is, the theater has very small screens, poor customer service, etc. That’s what made sense about the $2 price! If I’m paying full price, I go to the Market Place.
