If you are looking to try out a new place for date night or a girls’ night out, then you have to stop by at Jimmy’s Famous American Tavern. It’s a very low-key place with great service.
From the moment you walk in, it’s a very business casual environment. Perfect to go with family, date, or friends. We were greeted by a friendly hostess and since we had made reservations, we didn’t have to wait. The décor is great and takes you straight to a classy pub scene. You have the option of sitting at the bar, booths, open tables, or outside tables for everybody’s dining preference. I personally prefer booths to sitting in the middle of a restaurant. On my date night, we selected a booth and it was cozy, not secluded, but still had our own privacy.
I’m all about comfort food and let me tell you the quality is on another level. With fresh high quality ingredients to create bold and “crave-able” flavors.
To start off with, we ordered some delicious Charred Brussels Sprouts made with Applewood bacon, pinenuts, and maple syrup. Along with the best freshest Ale Battered Onion Rings complimented with a side of Housemade Chipotle Ketchup. We couldn’t have started off with better choices in my opinion. Each bite we savored and the appetizers were perfect to work up an appetite. I’ve had onion rings in a lot of places, but these were the best ones I’ve tried! Fresh and fried to perfection! Not your deep-fried rancid type of onion rings you get at other places.
After our starters, we were ready for the main course. I was craving steak and I had the choice from a 12oz flatiron steak or a 16oz Rib-eye steak; but then I noticed the Bourbon-Chipotle BBQ Baby Back Ribs and I made my choice. I love steak and ribs but I’m a sucker for ribs. I have to say I’ve been to a lot of restaurants and tried their BBQ baby back ribs and JFAT’s baby back ribs were authentic and high quality taste. It came with baked sweet beans, honey mustard coke slaw, french fries, and cornbread. A perfect comfort Americana dish.
My date had the JFAT Tavern steak, which is a 12 oz flatiron steak with brandy peppercorn sauce. I tasted a piece and wow! The steak was so tender that it melted in my mouth, and the peppercorn sauce gave it such a distinct flavor that it complimented the steak.
They have several food options on their menu, not to mention an assorted variety of great local brews. If you want to try different local brews, then you have to check them out. They have several options for IPA brews for the beer connoisseur.
What is an American IPA? The American IPA is a different soul from the reincarnated IPA style. More flavorful than the withering English IPA, color can range from very pale golden to reddish amber. Hops are typically American with a big herbal and / or citric character, bitterness is high as well. For those of you that don’t know what IPA is, it’s an India Pale Ales that originated in England and are brewed and sold all over the world. “IPA” is an initialism for India Pale Ale, a hoppy style of beer within the pale ale category.
We had the JFAT Blonde, Mojito, Golden Road Hefeweizen, Rose Charles & Charles, and Pinot Grigio with endless choices, it’s more than enough.
Also, another thing that caught my attention about this restaurant is that they are an innovative green certified restaurant, which means they are more environmentally responsible which we definitely need more of that. Plus they are part of the Seafood for the Future program. This program is dedicating to protecting the ocean’s wildlife by using the best available science, management, and technology for seafood production to promoting a stable supply of seafood while protecting ocean’s wildlife and habitat.
Don’t miss their great happy hour specials, every Monday-Friday, they have any burger and draft beer for $14! Don’t think Tavern? And think of old English pubs, JFAT’s is definitely not like that. It does give you a bit of both worlds offering great Americana food and beer! You can’t go wrong with that.
