The kids and I were invited to try a selection on cupcakes which we were able to choose ourselves. My Delight Cupcakery offers different flavors of the month, so we opted to try cupcakes from both their special seasonal menu as well as their signature flavors.
This month’s menu includes deluxe cupcake flavors including Blueberry Breakfast, Chocolate Covered Marshmallow, Horchata, Mixed Berry Parfait, Red Velvet S’mores, Rocky Road, Strawberries N’ Cream, Gluten Free Lemon-Almond Cheesecake and an exclusive flavor for each week!
We chose the Birthday, Blueberry Breakfast, Horchata, Strawberries N’ Cream and Southern Red Velvet (with cherry filling). You can choose between classic Red Velvet without the cherry filling too.
As soon as we were handed our brown box, my kids were anxious to try one. These little stinkers couldn’t wait to take a bite. They wanted to eat it right away and didn’t want to wait until we got home. Before I knew it, I didn’t even get the chance to take a picture of the filling before the kids dove right in. They demolished their cupcakes! Aalyssa, my 11 year old, couldn’t stop telling me how moist the cupcakes were. Meanwhile, I got the seal of approval by thumbs-ups from my son, Nico and seven year old, Olivia. These cupcakes were so delicious they didn’t even make it to the following day.
Olivia is in to all things pretty and sparkly so it didn’t surprise me when she chose the Birthday cupcake. The Birthday cupcake appealed to her because of the fun, colorful sprinkles it was decorated with. It was served in a separate plastic container from the other cupcakes and was served cold. As Olivia made her way to the center, she discovered the Birthday cupcake was filled with vanilla ice cream. She was super excited. It tasted exactly like a birthday party in her mouth. Just like any kids party, you can’t have cake without ice cream. It’s a kids dream come true.
2. Southern Red Velvet with cherry filling
Nico chose the Southern Red Velvet cupcake with cherry filling. I’m sure the red, sweet heart-shaped chocolate topper appealed to him so that’s one of the reasons why he chose that specific cupcake. The cream cheese frosting was so creamy, it melted in his mouth. After Nico started poking around, he found the cherry filling. My kids love anything with cherries so this was a hit. The tartness of the cherries complimented the sweetness of the cream cheese frosting. Nico seemed to really enjoy his choice because he was licking every inch of that frosting off of his fingers.
Now I wouldn’t be a Latina Mom without trying their horchata cupcake. If you’re not familiar with the drink, it’s a Mexican agua fresca and is made with rice, vanilla and cinnamon. Just like how you get to the end of your Horchata drink and you see the cinnamon bits at the bottom of your cup, this cupcake had cinnamon sprinkled on top of it. I appreciated the detail and how it reminded me exactly of the drink. It wasn’t too sweet or overpowering and was a perfect representation of the drink, and tastes just like horchata.
4. Blueberry Breakfast
Who doesn’t love bacon, right?! We had to try their blueberry breakfast cupcake, which is also on their January menu. This cupcake is topped with blueberries and bacon – we couldn’t wait to sink our teeth in this one. What I loved about this cupcake was that it made me feel like I was having blueberry pancakes with a side of bacon for breakfast. The consistency of the cake itself felt just like pancakes, which was amazing to me. So if you’re on-the-go, grab a blueberry breakfast cupcake and it’ll make you feel like you just ate an entire breakfast spread.
5. Strawberries N’ Cream
Aalyssa chose the strawberries n’ cream cupcake which is also on their January menu. As soon as she took her first bite, I could smell the strawberry aroma from the frosting which she said made her mouth water. The cupcake was moist and the filling was delicious and topped with pink chocolate shavings. It had tid bits of strawberries in the filling which were visibly appealing.
