Odysseo by Cavalia is back for the Holiday Season. Every year Cavalia brings this amazing horseman show to Southern California and this year it is in Camarillo. The Big White Top is right off the 101 freeway in Ventura County, looking nothing less than spectacular. Once inside there are two food concession stands with your typical popcorn and pretzels for the kids. A Le Cafe stand selling coffee and this year serving Nothing Bundts Cakes. Do not worry there is a bar serving draft beer and wine. In the middle of it all is the souvenir shop. Plenty of souvenirs for the horse lover!
Once we had each picked a snack we headed for our seats. There are a couple of obstructed seats but every other seat in the house is assured a great view. The show began with a 10 minute high impact performance from tribal dancers, acrobats and horses. This was just a taste of what was to come. I got the sense that Odysseo has a rhythm to it. After a high energy performance of acrobats or tribal drummers follows a slower horsemanship demonstration. I noted how to the untrained eye these horsemanship performances seem easy. If you pay attention there is so much beauty in the technique the horses are showing. The constant changing scenes going from grassy prairies to snowy mountains. The final act is just mesmerizing, when the stage becomes a lake. My daughter and best friend had a debate if it was real water or an illusion, until the horse finally trots in water and the entire audience gasp.
I spent a good portion of show looking over to see my daughter’s face, who was just as stunned as me. The acrobatics definitely give you a feel of a Cirque du Soleil caliber performances. Tribal drummers make sure to bring tons of energy and interaction between the audience and performers. Personally Odysseo lived up to all the hype I had read and heard about it. It is truly a theatrical marvel and it being done all under a tent is amazing. Odysseo will be showing at White Big Top in Camarillo till Jan 7th so plenty of dates available to catch it before it ends. Make sure to grab some friends since they offer discounts when you buy 4 or more tickets. They also offer a 30% discount during Thanksgiving, after all your black Friday shopping why not enjoy the show. The show is spectacular and a great experience for the entire family.
