We were treated to an amazing “Vampirates” show at Pirate’s Dinner Adventure. It was our first time as a familia attending a dinner show. I was a bit uncertain if the chiquitos would handle a two hour show. The boys ages nine, seven, five, and three, all did fine and definitely loved the show. Even after a week the three year old still recalls scenes from Vampirates. I was worried about it being too scary for them since it is their halloween time show-it is not scary. Vampirates is a great time for the entire family and actually geared towards the kids.
The show is all about audience participation. The audience is a divided into colored crews. We were the orange crew. Each crew is expected to root for their crew leader. During the show the leader takes part in various skills test like, climbing the ropes, obstacle course, etc. There was even a crowd favorite song, the chorus was, ” Drink, Drink, Drink.” We felt like actual pirates, raising our mugs and hollering the chorus. Since, this is their Halloween time show they had a children’s costume contest, Fridays through Sundays. The top three costumes got to board the ship and get rooted on by the crowd. It was all good family fun. The boys loved that they could be as loud as the wanted when our orange crew leader was competing. There was no need for me to quiet them, since I was yelling right along with them. The audience participation makes this show a family must that the kids will never forget.
Vampirates tells the story of a vampire hunter turned into a vampire. The story line includes love, betrayal and lots of action. There are fight scenes between the vampires and vampire hunters. The gypsy who is captured by vampires performs aerial acrobats that will keep you on edge of your seat. The vampire pirate crew gets to work while jumping to great heights on the trampoline. All this action while the audience enjoys a dinner of chicken, mashed potatoes and veggies. Our server asked if we wanted shrimp on the side and of course we said Yes! The adult entree was yummy, although I would forget to eat because the action was so good. The niños chowed down on chicken nuggets, macaroni and cheese, and fruit. The dessert is a moist vanilla cake drizzled with chocolate. I got a cafecito to enjoy with my dessert. The food was just as good as the show which made it that much more enjoyable.
In the midst of all the drama enfolding there is plenty of humor to lighten the mood. One of the vampire pirates is hilarious with his impromptu comments and jokes, that are perfect for niños and adults. It was another happy surprise of Vampirates, that humor was a major part of the show. The show is not afraid to make fun of competitors or take on famous pirate movie theme songs. I loved how my boys were glued into the action and would catch onto the jokes.
